Pointless characters to play Essay The second scene of our performance began with Stephanie, Megan, Adrian and Emma all sitting at a table together. In this scene Emma questions Adrian about where he was on the previous night and he justifies himself by complaining that she doesnt trust him; in this scene Stephanie and Megan are talking to each other about their love for him and how they wouldnt behave like Emma if they were to be his girlfriend. The second scene involves Emma and I talking about her relationship with Adrian before Stephanie and Megan arrive on the scene for a confrontation. In this scene Emma and Stephanie exchange remarks and insults to each other before Megan joins in, at this point my character also gets involved stating to Megan that this confrontation is purely between Stephanie and Emma. The confrontation then continues with Megan making a remark to Emma about Adrian stating that Emma doesnt even know where Adrian is in the evenings, before Emma continues my character leads her away by saying it isnt worth the bother. In this scene Stephanie and |Megan have the higher status as they ended the confrontation on a high point and with the most effective comments. The next scene was the Party, in this scene Emma and Adrian are arguing, as my character was left alone I went to talk with Stephanie and Megan. Emma continues quarrelling with Adrian and then decides to leave Adrian sitting on his own and join myself and Megan. At this point Stephanie walks away from the rest of us while Megan Emma and I dance together (in a conga line) until we are left at a standstill when we see Stephanie and Adrian heading towards the bedroom together. The next scene was a developed version of the tableau with each of us in our occupational positions. In this scene we used great amounts of dramatic mediums like use of levels and use of space. In this tableau Adrian was a councillor, Megan became a barmaid, Stephanie was a councillor, Marian was a police officer and I became a drug dealer. To portray our vast differences in status each person was at a different level according to their occupation; the greater the level the higher the status. In this scene each one of us acted out our scene while the rest of the group were in a freeze-frame. The next scene is when Stephanie and Megan meet again at Stephanies workplace; as they have a great time re-establishing themselves with each other Stephanie invites Megan to her house. Once they both go back to Stephanies home the two have a great time sharing their stories and experiences until Stephanie reveals to Megan that shes married Adrian and theyve been together for a few years. When Megan hears this she become extremely hurt and angry exclaiming that they had both made a pledge tat none of them would have him however Stephanie justifies her actions by claiming that they were in high school and that shouldnt mean anything to her. Though Stephanie believes this Megan believes that it was a betrayal of friendship and as the anger heightens in their confrontation Megan smashes a mirror. At this point the dramatic tension in the scene reaches an extremely high peak with Stephanie exclaiming look what you have done. Stephanie continues by screaming frantically that theyre both going to have seven years of bad luck however Megan angrily screams at Stephanie that what shes saying is just stupid and untrue superstition and that shes extremely neurotic. When Stephanie hears Megans comments shes so outraged that she orders Megan to leave, Megan then storms out screaming that she wouldnt have stayed any longer anyway. However before the argument with Stephanie and Megan ended, myself and Emma are in a scene in which she is desperate and pleading for more drugs, however as my character is angry that she hasnt paid off her debt, I warn her that if she doesnt pay the money back within a certain amount of time, shed be in serious danger. Once Megan storms out of Stephanies house my character is aiming the gun to shoot Emma however as Megan obstructs the bullets course she is accidentally shot dead instead. As my character is in complete shock and disbelief at the mistake Id made I run away from the scene, leaving Stephanie to find Megans dead body. Gerald Croft's EssayFor example I felt the roles of Marian and I were particularly weak as there was no real character history or reason for our presence. Marian only appeared as a DJ during the teenage years and later as a police officer with limited things to do however though this was the case I felt that in the scene showing each character in their career that Marians portrayal was the most effective and successful. This is as she sustained a high level of involvement, used a great amount of movement and portrayed the actions of a police officer with great success as she managed to convince the audience of her role. I also feel that my character was a fairly weak one as apart from acting as Emmas friend in the teenage years and a drug dealer in the later years. The reason why the role was fairly weak was because though the deaths of the characters I killed were accidental I fell there was no strong storyline linking myself to Stephanie or Megan as I wasnt their enemies during their earlier years nor did I have any significant contact with the characters. However I feel that my character did manage to have a realistic amount of depth in the scene that Stephanie is run over in. My belief is that because of the issues within our preparation it reduced the impact and success of our improvisation and performances. The negatives of our improvisation are that we didnt manage to successfully link each scene together and our use of the dramatic element of cross cutting didnt always prove to be a complete and smooth success during the audiences evaluation and hot-seating of our improvisation all of the audience seemed confused and often commented that they became lost in the often confusing and cross-cutted plot. Another negative is that I felt that our plot was at times slightly melodramatic However though these negatives hindered the improvisation there were also many positives that counterbalance them. One of the positives is that when we did work together as a group we were all extremely focused on what we had to prepare and had a great level of co-operation. I also feel that though we had problems with our improvisation that we all managed to sustain a high level of involvement as none of us came out of role. I also feel that we all complemented each others acting on stage and therefore helped ach other sustain our involvement level and this therefore helped us believe in our characters even more. I also feel that our performance had great strong points like our use of levels and space to create differences in status and contrasts between the characters. Another success of our improvisation was that our play was extremely creative, unique, imaginative and adventurous. I also feel that though our improvisations had its problems the general level of involvement and acting was very high. I also feel that we ha excellent voice projection use of body language and facial expression and a great level of interaction. Another excellent point of our performances were that they all had a great dramatic atmosphere full of tension in confrontational scenes as well as the use of great emotion during both the deaths of Megan and Stephanie. Once we explored our improvisation through evaluation I felt with the audiences views and opinions that if we were asked to improve our improvisation that we could do so with great success Therefore to conclude I believe that the task of creating an improvisation based on Blood brothers proved to be successful as though there were weak points the positives balance and manage to outweigh the bad. I also feel that this prepared improvisation has helped me develop a greater understanding of many things. Firstly it has helped me learn how to co-operate with a group of people with great confidence and strong views. My improvisation has also helped me understand friendships and contrasts between people with greater compassion and has also broadened my understanding of the Blood Brothers production to a new level.

Women were supposed to have jobs just until they were married and those who did work after they were married or were mothers were regarded with a sense of pity and scorn from society. In a pre-war poll, 82 percent of Americans believed a wife should not work if her husband did. A majority of Americans believed there should have been a law to prohibit it since rural and city women, alike spent about 50 hours a week on household chores alone. When the war began it became apparent that more workers were needed. However, women were among the last groups hired. Managers believed that women would take more interest in male workers than they would with the factory machines. As the war progressed and more men were shipped out for military duty, all the men that could work in the United States were so there was no other choice but to hire women. In response the need for more workers, 6.5 million women entered the work force. Factories and companies, as well as special branches of military service tried to lure women into taking jobs by comparing the housework they did everyday to the work they would be doing in their new jobs. One billboard even stated, If youve followed the recipes in making cakes, you can learn to load a shell. Women in America accounted for one third of the work force during World War II. In the beginning of the war, most of the women who worked were single but shortly thereafter the need for wartime workers increased so greatly the factories began recruiting housewives as well. By 1943, housewife workers outnumbered single workers for the first time in history.Throughout the war women went to work in shipyards, aircraft plants and other assembly lines. They also loaded shells, operated cranes, painted ships. Many of them became welders, bus drivers, train conductors, mechanics, bellhops, nurses and day-care providers. Women comprised a third of the workers in aircraft plants and about 10 percent of the workers at the shipyards and steel mills were women. Although most war work was in factories, many women found work elsewhere. Many became secretaries and clerks in Washington D.C. and more than 200,000 women entered the special branches of the military. Such branches include Womens Army Corp (WAC), Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES), and Womens Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron (WAFS). These military positions allowed women to take over tasks for soldiers so they could be free to go to combat. Although women participated in jobs extremely similar to men, they were not treated equally. For the long hours women put in, their salaries averaged only 60 percent of mens. However, the greatest struggle for American women throughout the war was not simply the issue of money. The working life was difficult for these women. They would work eight to ten hours, often on a night or overnight shift and there were long rides home. When many of these women returned home from work they had to worry about their families and children. There were lines to buy food and other products and very appliances in their households to help with cooking and cleaning. World War II gave women a patriotic excuse to leave their homes. A Department of Labor poll found that 85 percent of women in the United Auto Workers union wanted to keep their jobs after the war ended. Differences in Spanish and English Spelling If you can spell in English, you have a head start with spelling in Spanish. After all, thousands of words are English-Spanish cognates, words in both languages that are spelled identically or similarly because they share common origins. For the English speaker learning Spanish as a second language, most of these words pose little problem in spelling, as the differences between the two languages usually follow regular patterns. Below are listed the most common regular differences in spelling as well as a selection of words whose differences dont fit these patterns. The emphasis here is on words that are likely to cause spelling problems, not ordinary differences in the languages such as radio for the English radium and dentista for dentist. Avoidance of y as a vowel: Except for some recently imported words such as byte and sexy, Spanish usually doesnt use y as a vowel except in diphthongs, so i is used instead. Examples include hidrà ³geno (hydrogen), dislexia , and gimnasta (gymnast). Use of cua and cuo instead of qua and quo: Examples include ecuador (equator) and cuota. Dropping of Englishs silent letters: Commonly, the h in English words is dropped in the Spanish equivalents, as in ritmo (rhythm) and gonorrea (gonorrhea). Also, it is common in modern Spanish to not use ps- to start words. Thus sicolà ³gico is used for psychologist, although the older forms such as  psicolà ³gico are still used. (The cognate of psalm is always salmo.) Use of ess include especial, està ©reo, escaldar (scald), escuela (school), and esnobismo (snobbery). Use of f for the English ph: Examples include elefante, foto, and Filadelfia. Other Common Differences Avoidance of double letters in Spanish: Except for recent words of foreign origin (such as express), the use of rr and, less commonly, the use of cc (where the second c is followed by i or e), Spanish generally doesnt use double letters in English cognates. Thus the English libretto is libreto in Spanish, possible is posible, and illegal is ilegal. Examples of rr or cc in cognates include accià ³n, acceso, and irrigacià ³n. One Spanish word that doesnt fit this pattern is perenne (perennial). Avoidance of hyphenation in Spanish: Hyphens arent used as much in Spanish as they are in English. An example is that while some styles of English uses hyphens in words such as re-edit and re-encounter, Spanish does not in the equivalents: reeditar and reencontrar (the latter of which can also be spelled as rencontrar). Simplification in Spanish: A number of words, particularly ones whose English spellings come from French, have more phonetic spellings in Spanish. For example, bureau is burà ³ and chauffeur is chà ³fer or chofer, depending on the region. B and V: B and V have identical sounds in Spanish, and there are a few words where the English and Spanish cognates use opposite letters. Examples include govern and gobernar, and Basque and vasco. Praful Bohra, senior analyst at Nirmal Bang Securities, says two years ago, the contribution from anti-retroviral drugs was 20-25 per cent while today, it has fallen to 15 per cent. According to analysts, the falling margins in anti-retroviral drugs due to tough competition from multinational, as well as domestic companies has triggered the shift towards new avenues.Regional shift The rationalisation can also be viewed through the export contribution from different geographies. According to the IDFC report, contribution of Africa — which is primarily a tender business market — to total exports declined from 42 per cent in the financial year 2010-11 to 40 per cent in 2011-12, with absolute sales remaining flat, year-on-year. In contrast, the share of Europe and Australasia grew from 26 per cent in financial year 2010-11 to 30 per cent in 201112 with sales growing at 32 per cent and 18 per cent, respectively.Cipla also plans to increase its focus on domestic markets, with introduction of its offerings in new therapeutic segments, such as oncology and neuropsychiatry. â€Å"The company is the market leader in key therapeutic areas, such as respiratory care, anti-viral and urological†¦ Cipla plans to focus on growing its market share and sales by increasing penetrat ion in the Indian market, especially in rural areas,† a recent report by Angel Broking said. The company? s distribution network in India consists of a field force of around 7,000 employees. The company? new offerings would also include biosimilars, especially those in the oncology, anti-asthmatic and anti-arthritis categories. â€Å"They already have the pipeline in place (Avastin, Herceptin, Enbrel, among others), and would benefit from having the commercial footprint in regulated markets at the earliest,† points Mehra. Cipla has already invested $165 million in India and China to acquire facilities and build new ones for its foray. Cipla has traditionally not been aggressive about hiring senior management personnel from outside the organisation. However, there seems to be a clear change in strategy on this front, reflective of the transformation underway into a more aggressive unit,† says Agarwal in the report.
